WITH LOVE ...
Our adventure to ‘Spot in the Woods’ – The New Forest
The excitement was at an all time high in our house on Monday morning…. Boo packed his back pack full of every Peppa Pig soft toy he owned (around 15!) and as the zip was pulled round he declared he was ready to go! In reality I hadn’t even packed a bag… after a lot of grumbling from me – trying to find enough pants, socks and everyones toothbrushes we were finally on our way.
With our eldest away with school this week – skiing in Switzerland – we took advantage of the time alone with little one. Boo’s a huge fan of George pig and that means Peppa Pig World has been on my to do list for a while.
The journey from kent took just over two hours – just do-able with a very excited five year old. As we approached the forest I actually got rather excited my self… who would spot the first pony?! Well as we approached our little hotel I realised it was in fact on the outside of the forest by only a few hundred feet. But there was plenty of time to explore later of course.
I LOVE a hotel stay – checking out everything from the facilities to the toiletries. Ive always been the same. My parents often joke about how I used to check out the toilets wherever we went… whats that all about!? Whenever we even think about going away – hours of hotel research begins and I make it my mission to find the best hotel in town. Not just based on star rating, but the best all round. Im particularly interested in Childrens facilities… sprinkled with a bit of luxury. After all if they’re happy we’re happy.
Anyway… we turn left into a lovely gravely driveway. As we turn on the crunchy stones, ahead through the trees I glimpse a look at our home for the next couple of days ‘Spot in the Woods’
The huge front door is painted in a gorgeous period duck egg green – super inviting! We clamber out of the car, eager to discover whats behind the giant door. Boo is first up to the door … and as I help him push it open the hustle and bustle of the lovely ‘Kitchen Cafe’ becomes apparent. We wait a few moments to check in, and sign into the giant guest book.
It’s beautiful.. either side of the little check in desk is a deli and a gift shop. The Deli is stacked with so many delicious goodies from fresh local eggs to posh dog food. The gift shop has lots of delightful wares too. The Cow prints and cushions were particularly special.
At the end of the hallway is the fabulous Kitchen Cafe, a really casual dining experience with locally sourced, fabulously cooked dishes. All day breakfast, scrummy lunches, wine list, healthy kids menu and even a little play room tucked away in one corner. The beautiful decking has comfy sofas complete with warm blankets to enjoy the view whatever the weather.
We make our way up to our room and it’s perfect. The door opens into the main bedroom, to the right is a little flight of stairs down to a small lounge and then onto the bathroom.
Our bed was sooooo squishy. Very comfy indeed. The crisp, bright white linen and soft duvets were perfect. The wardrobe was home to a mini fridge – complete with fresh milk (greatly appreciated!) Nespresso machine, tea and coffee etc.
Down the steps to the lounge – this had a small bed in it too for boo, he was delighted to have his own ‘area’ it really worked out well having him in a separate space. We were able to put him to bed in the evening and watch TV in our bedroom without disturbing him.
The bathroom had a full size free standing bath and separate shower. We were all catered for. Of course not forgetting the delicious smelling Lavender toiletries!!
Once we were settled and unpacked we popped down to the cafe for lunch. It didn’t disappoint – fabulous fish finger sandwiches – properly done! Great service and food all round. They were very helpful with Boo’s extremely fussy ‘needs’ – more patience than me anyway!
After lunch we went off to explore the forest and meet the ponies. It’s refreshing how such simple things can be so so enjoyable. Boo still (days on) cant get over that a wild pony came over and put its nose in the car window. His face was a picture.
The lady at the hotel had already told us that the restaurant is only open for lunch, and that if we wanted to order a take away they are happy to provide all the crockery and cutlery – and we could even sit in the restaurant to eat it if we liked. Gosh – how accommodating is that! We grabbed a bottle of wine from a local shop and ordered a take away… billy had a giant soapy bath and went off to sleep in his ‘new bedroom’ very happily. A great day had by all.
Tomorrow is the BIG day… Peppa Pig World here we come.
Our stay at ‘Spot in the Woods’ was so enjoyable, the facilities, quality, service and staff were all first class. We look forward to visiting again very soon… Im already planning a summer trip.
